Arion watched the wind play with the grass, running over it and causing even distruptions that looked like waves. Exhaling with a finality that chilled her, Arion's deep blue eyes skimmed the quidditch pitch and her body shuddered with fear. She had flown before, but as a bird, and that had been in a dream-like state. Now, this was a totally different situation. Liam was looking rather professional with his green robes, and though she didn't know the names of popular quidditch teams, she recognized the colors.

Liam inhaled deeply as the wind blew at his face, his hair tied back with a tie he'd used when he was playing for Ireland's Official Quidditch Team, a certain tie that was spelled to resist all tugs of wind, rain, Bludgers, people, snow, and the like. Basically, it could only be taken off by Liam's hands, which was a good thing for a Quidditch Player, namely a Chaser. Looking over at Arion, he grinned and slung his Firebolt over his shoulder. D'you have your own broom? If not, you can use mine and I'll borrow Saren's, he said, the wind being nice to him and carrying his voice in Arion's direction so that he didn't have to yell.

Arion shook her head in the negatory. "I've never flown before." There, she said it. At the moment, she was wondering why she had ever wanted to learn to do this anyway. Sure, it was a lot more practical than walking a distance, but it was also more difficult in the sense that she had terrible balance. Liam had obviously been hoping that she had posessed some prior knowledge in the area of hanging onto a flying stick, but he was wrong. The only thing she knew about flying was that her father disapproved of it, and also that her mother had been quite the keeper in her school years. Nevertheless, Arion had never gotten within three yards of a broomstick before, and now was dreading the encounter.

He nodded and handed her his broom, muttering to it to behave- it seemed to have a mind of its own when he was on it, but that was because his youngest sister Anelle had jinxed it last All Hallow's Eve because Liam wouldn't take her trick-or-treating. Of course, Liam didn't know that, and was always baffled when his broomstick behaved around foreign riders. Taking out his wand, he murmured, Accio Saren's Firebolt, and on came the lovely beast of a broom, his eyes bright. Oh yes, Saren's broomstick was loyal and built for a Seeker, custom-made by the finest Broomstick Maker in all of the United Kingdom. Liam had his best one at home, not trusting it around the students. Okay, now, put the broom on the grass, step behind it, and order 'Up!'. Be firm or it won't come to you, but don't scare it, as it may just flop over or quiver a bit- mine shouldn't do that since it's faced Blugders, but...you get the point, he explained with a soft laugh, demonstrating the beginner's technique for Arion.

Arion nodded and smiled even though inside her nerves were writhing like snakes in her stomach. She looked down at the broomstick as though it were a very violent animal with fangs that was, for some bizarre reason, talking to her. If Liam was paying an impressive amount of attention to her face he would have seen a very amusing display of twitches and facial expressions chase themselves across her features. "Up." Her hand hovering over it, a very interesting chain of reactions happened. The first was that her wand jumped out of her pocket, feeling the less than commanding note in her voice and leaping at the chance to inflict unwanted magical attention. The second was that the broom, like a very well-trained soldier, jumped upwards into her hand, colliding with the wand. For a split second Arion was horrified, but by some stroke of luck, her wand dropped to the ground, docile and in her opinion, afraid. Arion looked up apologetically at Liam. "Ok, what next?"

He watched with an amused eye, expertly keeping his laughs under control. He was used to teaching children of his family- his twins could already fly on toy broomsticks, but to teach an adult that wasn't of the Imura clan, well, that was just damnably funny to watch as adults were supposed to know everything about everything. However, when the broom complied with her order to fly to her hand, he mentally thanked the Lord Above for having the little demon stick behave itself around Arion. Now, like with a horse, swing your leg over like so, he said, demonstrating, his feet flat on the ground, his broomstick quite higher up than Arion's because of his height. Then, kick off hard from the ground and hover a bit- just keep your balance. If you start to fall, I'll catch you, no worries. It helps to put your heels in the metal stirrups a little behind you, though, Liam said brightly. He could catch Arion- he knew from experiance that she didn't weigh a lot, or at least it didn't feel like it to his arms, and he knew that Saren's broom was fast.

Arion breathed out shakily, trying to smile and grimacing instead. Like riding a horse... She knew how to do that. But when she boarded the broom, it felt nothing like a horse, and her nerves did not dissipate. She knew Liam would catch her if she fell, but she had no intention of that. No intention at all. Pushing off from the ground, the broom obediently took her up, quicker than she expected and eliciting a groan. She didn't want to move at all and remembered suddenly a time when she had been standing on a diving-board and froze. This was the same, but she took a deep breath anyway and forced her shaking legs to the stirrups. It didn't feel safe at all, and she couldn't help but admit to herself that she was hanging from a wooden pole six feet from the ground. Oh, come on...you're not even higher than Liam yet. Convincing herself that this wouldn't end in a near-death experience, Arion wrapped her hands around the handle, leaning awkwardly out into an odd position and startling herself as the broom moved forward with her. "Ok..." Her voice was as shaky as her body, which was chattering with fear. "I'm up." She wanted to say, "I'm screwed", but held that negative comment in.

Liam watched her elevate to almost where he was and kicked off a bit higher, wanting her to match his height of about fifteen feet. Urge your broom upwards, but just think it in your mind. Then, try turning- Firebolts are easy to turn, so don't shove the nose of the broom or you'll probably do a 360 degree turn- just lightly move it to the right and fly to me, but pull back a bit to stop before you hit me, he instructed, always ready to catch her of course. Fifteen feet wasn't that high, as they were still a long way from the hoops, but they'd work their way up that high.

Arion nodded, confusion taking over. Just think about it? She was currently thinking about the best escape routes, but focused at his command. Alright, just move up, go to Liam, go to Liam... The broom did exactly that, going quicker than she wanted and causing her eyes to widen as she veered away from him, preventing a crash and all possibility of control over the thing. Though he had warned her about how sensitive the broom was, in her nerves she veered dramatically off course, flying left a ways until she was able to gasp out the word, "Stop!" She was panting and almost flew forward off the end of the broom had it not been for her ferocious grip on the handle. Slowly... Gently she turned back to face Liam, her face horribly red.

It was all he could do to keep from laughing, his face a little crimson as he held in the sniggers. When she turned around, however, his face had returned to its usual pale pigment and he was under control once more. I warned you, he said in a sing-song voice, tugging at one of her fallen curls playfully. He'd've kissed her, but he didn't want her to fall off of the broom because of that, so he held it in. Once you get the swing of it, it's much easier than it is at the beginning. Think of a broom as an extention of yourself, hug it with your knees and above all: don't try standing up before you're ready. I did that and I fell from one hundred feet in the air and I was unconcious for a week. This is not to scare you, but to show you that I made mistakes, too.

"Standing up?" She gave him a look that clearly showed she found him crazy. The words came out in a breathy whisper, and she looked horrified. "Oh, don't worry about me...I won't be doing that any time soon." Still, she took what he said into consideration, enjoying the playful tug on a stray curl, one of the many. Her bun was falling out, and her hair was fighting hard for it's freedom. Hugging her body to the broom, she closed her eyes, trying hard not to panic. She kept them like that for a few seconds and didn't notice she was moving slowly in a 360 until she opened them again, and at this point the dark blue of her irises became nearly invisible behind her black pupils. "Oh, god..."

He was starting to think that maybe he should've taught her on a school broom, but if she learned to ride, he wanted to get her a broomstick for Christmas, and would like to get her the best available- a Firebolt, so he figured she should learn to ride on one. Of course, he wouldn't let her know any of this and remain confident that she would learn to ride and learn to love the sport of Quidditch, which he still had to go over with her. Watching her spin slowly, he reached out and grabbed the nose of her borrowed broom, his other hand setting on the tail to keep it from spinning. Stay still and don't be afraid- brooms can sense fear just as easy as sharks can sense blood. Noticing that her bun was falling, he pulled out his spare tie that was magicked like his current one was and took her original one off, his free hand on the nose still, and tied up her locks with the new one. There. Now, once you get your balance, try coming to me again, he said as he let go of the broom and flew a little ways off again.

"Thanks", she muttered to him as he stopped the broom and put her hair up properly. His comment made quite a bit of sense to her, though it did nothing to ease her suffering. Once, her brother had told her bees could sense fear, and she had become even more terrified of them, ending up getting stung in a frantic attempt to calm herself and not run. Now, she knew better than to quiet the little warning alarm in her head. "I don't know about this, Liam...I don't think your broom likes me very much." It was a childish thing to say, but she could think of no better excuse than that. Still, she followed after him shakily, wondering who the hell first saw a stick and decided, 'Hey, wouldn't it be fun if I held onto it 50 feet in the air while moving at excessive speeds?' Still, this was Liam's sport, and she needed to learn this for personal reasons. Besides, she had wrestled a Monarch Stag to the ground before. This was simple compared to that.

Liam grinned and sat his hands on his thighs- this was his sport and he wanted her to learn it- after all flying under the moonlight was a lovely thing indeed for a couple, and, despite the ring laying on his dresser in his room that reminded him that he was married, he was starting to imagine how things would be if he and Arion were dating. Mmm...that'd be very nice, he thought to himself as a warm feeling of fuzzies overcame his bod. Shoving the emotion down, he took a deep breath and looked at her. No, it just doesn't like me. In fact, I think it hates me or something, but you can do it- I believe in you Arion, he encouraged, waiting for her to do as he asked prior.

Despite his insistance that she could do it, she still felt her nerves bubbling as she urged the broom forward. It followed her command at a pace she found acceptable, and she kept her thoughts from trailing to the inevitable, "I-fall-he-accidentally-misses" cenario. Instead, she concentrated on moving forward and found it to be exceptionally simple, even though the sensation was not favorable to her. She stopped directly in front of him, reminded of swimming to her dad's open arms. That, she realized, was a perfect parallel to the current situation, except Liam was definately NOT her father. She looked up at him with that last thought and flushed, tying to direct her thoughts to a less animalistic nature.

As she successfully flew to be infront of him, he smiled and praised her roundly. Excellent! See, I told you you could do it! Now, let's try turning again, he said with another smile, gray eyes dancing in elation. Now that she got the feel of flying straight-on, maybe she'd learn to turn just as fast! After all, they hadn't been in the air terribly long and Arion was already this far? Sure, she wasn't making as much progress as his family would, but that was because the Imuras had Quidditch running through their Irish-green blood in hurricanes while he doubted that Arion did. So it was quite obvious why he was proud of his darling Blodeuedd Arion.

Arion nodded though she felt completely rattled, not to mention idiotic. His praises were kind, but they were nothing against the constant, inward berations. She was a perfectionist when it came to certain things, sports included, a general reason why she avoided participating in them. And now she hadn't mamaged to pick it up immediately, a secret hope. Still, he was right. She had made progress along the lines of flying, and if she was being realistic, it wasn't something most people just picked up.

He felt a powerful breeze come their way and instinctively grabbed hold of Arion's broom, not wanting the gust to blow her off course and out into perhaps more powerful winds where the broom would be snapped in two and, more importantly, Arion could be injured. Settling himself after the gust was over, he let go of her broom and embraced the ones that came afterwards, much smaller ones that felt good against his face. Okay...so go, he said, waiting for her to try to turn.

What? Just...go? "Okay..." She did her best and ended upside-down, clinging like a marsupial to her broom, her eyes shut as she squeezed her lips shut and bit the insides of her mouth. Somehow that had gone horribly, horribly wrong. The wind pushed her from side to side as though enjoying her torment, and she wondered whether or not the world was transpiring against her and this god-forsaken broom.

He winced inwardly as she flipped and flew to her side, turning her carefully so that both she and broom were upright again, his hands sure as they touched her and the wood of the broom- he'd obviously uprighted people before. He figured they should've chose a calmer day to have a Flying Lesson, but without the wind it'd be scaldering hot outside and he wouldn't've been able to stand the boiling heat long enough to teach Arion how to even pick up her broom. It would've sent the lad retreating into the castle's dungeons where it was nice and cool. Now, just wait until winter- that was his element basically, oh, that and rain. Yes...dear Liam loved the weather that most people hated.

Arion cast him a pleading look that stated clearly she was loosing it. "I really don't think..." That's it. You really don't think. Sighing, she continued. "I don't think I'm cut out for this." Arion looked up at him again, her eyes looking desolate. She was willing to compromise, do whatever it took. She really wanted to get down, and she felt like a baby because of it.

He gave her a soft grin and picked her up in his arms, setting her in front of him on the broom, his arms going around her waist to hold on to the wood before them. As his real broom went to the ground to wait for him to put it away, Liam looked at Arion calmly. Let me fly you around a bit and then we'll go inside and come back out when it's not as windy, okay? he bargained, wanting to show her just how it felt to be flying at break-neck speeds, the exhileration that filled one's lungs as the wind ripped through one's hair. To Liam, it was the feeling of estacy and he loved racing with his sisters and cousins to prove who was the fastest- it was usually Sarentegra or Anelle since they were thinner, shorter, and lighter than Liam and their sire, but there were rare times when Liam, their father, or one of their cousins won.

Arion nodded, her stomach swooping for other reasons besides being so high in the air. "Okay..." She was still uneasy about the flying, but Liam held her tight enough that she was able to feel comfortable, besides the closeness, which made her heart flutter.

He smiled and let his head rest over her shoulder, letting her feet rest in the stirrups while his linked around her legs. Finally set, he whispered, Don't be scared, and shot off into the sky, holding tighter to her than he was to the broom so that she wouldn't flip out, or so he hoped. His hair, in a horsetail, whipped out behind him as they elevated higher and higher before shooting off into the distance above the clouds and wind, the sun beaming down, level with them now. His eyes were merry and, now that no one could see them, he craned his neck slightly and kissed her upon the lips tenderly.

Arion felt her lips tingle as he skimmed them with his own, and the only thing keeping her from returning the affection was the impressive speed Liam was approaching, so she leaned back and bit her bottom lip and held on tightly, surprised as she found herself enjoying the speed.

The kiss over for the moment, he tilted the nose of the broom downwards and they began to plummet to the ground, his arms locking over Arion to keep her from sliding off the front end. Like the professional he was, Liam stopped just inches from the ground and shot back up again, doing little arial spirals upwards, a gleeful laugh falling from his lips.

Arion heard his laugh and after a second or so followed suit, enjoying herself for the first time during the lesson. The wind ran it's fingers through her hair and worked quickly on her tie, but somehow it held, and she suspected dimly that Liam had something to do with that. She was smiling now as Liam took them on a roller-coaster of spins and dips, and she briefly fantasized about doing this herself, knowing that was Liam's eventual goal. Doubting still her capabilities, at least now she had a better incentive than just needing a spare mode of transportation.

Liam finally had them flip upside down, holding on to Arion securely so that she wouldn't fall and did little spirals then before three loop-de-loops, a spell already around them so that their wands wouldn't slip out and fall, curteousy of Liam Imura of course. Needing to catch his breath, Liam paused above the clouds again and smiled. D'you like flying now? he inquired brightly, his face flushed pink from the wind and adrenaline, his gray eyes dancing excitedly.

She spoke through her laughter, turning her head in a failed attempt to glimpse his face. "Yes!" Her own hands were right behind his, gripping tightly onto the handle and partially his hand. He gripped her tightly and she felt more secure than any other time in her life, finding that safety relieving. The wind was practically pushing it's way into her lungs, and she barely had to breath. The grounds looked magical from up here, and she felt like she could skim the clouds with her finger-tips. It was magical and new, a hard emotion to achieve for Arion who encountered the impossible every day. She wondered who else had flown over this place and knew the legends and their stories were practically within her grasp here, with Liam helping her reach for them.

He beamed and kissed her warmly and sensually on th lips. Good. I'd hate for you to hate my favourite sport and activity, he murmured in her ear. He rested his cheek against hers and sighed contentedly as the breath came back to him, his hands holding into hers comfortingly. Mmm...like it up here? he asked, hoping she'd say yes, as this was one of his favourite spots to be. It was much nicer at night, but he doubted that Arion would come out in the dark.
